Sinus Headache Relief, Symptoms, Treatment

Inflammation of the tissues lining the sinuses may be the primary cause of sinus headache. The inflamed tissues swell and convey secretions that clog the normal drainage system from the sinuses, causing a build-up of fluid and secretions. Pressure of this fluid build-up causes the pain of sinus headache. Inflammation from the sinuses is known as sinusitis. The inflammation may arise because of an infection, an allergic reaction such as hay fever, in order to irritation.

Sinus headaches often begin as soon as you wake up in the morning, and may be better by afternoon. Sinus headaches can be challenging to diagnose, however, because symptoms act like tension headaches and migraines.
  • Pain ranging from mild to severe
  • Pain that's more intense first thing in the morning
  • Pain that could worsen when you bend over
  • Pain and tenderness behind the forehead, cheeks, and round the eyes and ears
  • Pain within the upper teeth
  • Headache occurring with other symptoms of sinusitis, including:

  1. Nasal stuffiness and congestion
  2. Thick nasal drainage
  3. Postnasal drip
  4. Fever
  5. Fatigue
  6. Stuffy ears
  7. A sore throat
  8. Cough
  9. Puffiness around the eyes
